About This Opportunity
We are thrilled to share this wonderful, competitive academic opportunity for the Eta Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Monrovia, Liberia).
Established in 1908 at Howard University, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is an international organization of college-educated women dedicated to promoting academic excellence and meaningful community service. To uplift communities and empower the next generation of female leaders, their Monrovia-based chapter has officially launched its 2026 Academic Scholarship Application for bright, high-achieving young women pursuing higher education in Liberia.
- Multi-Year Funding: The scholarship is merit-based and renewable for up to a maximum of five (5) years, provided the recipient maintains the required academic standing.
- Professional Mentorship: Awarded recipients will gain exclusive entry into the Scholarship Mentor Program, pairing them directly with the professional women of the Eta Beta Omega Chapter.
The selection committee is looking for young women who demonstrate high academic achievement, creative accomplishment, leadership, and uncommon talents or scientific/entrepreneurial acumen. To apply, you must meet the following:
- Gender: Female students.
- Enrollment: Must be a full-time student at an accredited Liberian college or university.
- Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its official equivalent).
- Applicants must compile and upload the following five items:
- Identification: A copy of your birth certificate, passport, or national identification card containing your biographical information.
- Proof of Enrollment: A Letter of Acceptance or an Official Transcript proving your full-time status at an accredited Liberian higher education institution.
- Academic Proof: Documented proof of a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Reference Letter #1 (Academic): Must attest to your character, academic ability, leadership qualities, grade transcripts, and any special awards.
- Reference Letter #2 (Community): Can be from anyone in your community, such as a pastor, imam, professional colleague, or supervisor.
- Applicants are required to submit written responses (300–500 words each) to the following two prompts:
- What do you see as the most urgent challenge of the Liberian nation today, and how would you address this?
- What creative accomplishments, leadership experiences, talents, gifts, or entrepreneurial, scientific, or innovative abilities make you unique? Please share your achievements, passions, and potential.
- Application Window: Open from Sunday, May 24th until Saturday, June 6, 2026 (Closing at midnight GMT). (Note: The portal's official system closes on June 6th at midnight, with final processing running through June 7th).
- Receipt Confirmation: All applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their submission by Sunday, June 7, 2026.
- Second Round Invitations: Shortlisted candidates moving to the next stage will be notified by Saturday, June 13, 2026.
