Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Hellen S. Momoh Scholarship for College Dropouts, applicants must meet all the following requirements:
Basic Eligibility Criteria
1. Liberian Citizenship: Applicant must be a citizen of the Republic of Liberia and provide proof of citizenship (valid Liberian passport, national ID card, or birth certificate).
2. University Dropout Status: Applicant must have formally withdrawn or dropped out from a recognized university or college in Liberia. Proof of dropout is required (official withdrawal letter, academic dismissal notice, or formal letter from the university registrar confirming your dropout)
3. Active University Enrollment History (Admission Letter): Applicant must have been enrolled at a recognized Liberian university or college and must have an assigned student identification number from that institution.
4. Duration of Dropout Applicant must provide the specific period (years/semesters) they have been out of school. There is no minimum or maximum time limit; all periods will be considered.
5. Academic Performance: Applicant must have achieved a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent in the semester immediately preceding the dropout. Official grade sheet or academic transcript demonstrating this GPA is required.
6. Strong Determination: Applicant must demonstrate strong determination and commitment to returning to and completing their education. This will be assessed through the personal statement essay and the interview process.
7. Willingness to be Interviewed: Applicant must be available and willing to participate in a scholarship interview (in-person or virtual) if shortlisted.
8. Previous Gradesheet: Applicant must possess and submit a copy of their most recent gradesheet or academic transcript from the semester prior to dropping out.
Supporting Documentation Checklist
Applicants must attach the following documents to their completed application form:
1. Completed and signed application form
2. Recent passport-size photograph
3. Proof of Liberian citizenship (copy of passport, national ID, or birth certificate)
4. Proof of dropout (official withdrawal letter, academic dismissal notice, or letter from university registrar)
5. Copy of university/college student ID card showing assigned ID number
6. Official grade sheet or academic transcript from the semester prior to dropout (must show GPA of 2.5 or higher)
7. Personal statement/essay (500-800 words) explaining reasons for dropout, lessons learned, and determination to complete education
8. One letter of recommendation from a former lecturer, academic advisor, or community leader
9. Any additional certificates or documentation supporting academic or personal achievements (optional)
Disqualification Criteria
Applications will be automatically disqualified if:
1. The applicant is currently enrolled in any university or college at the time of application.
2. The applicant fails to provide proof of dropout.
3. The GPA in the semester prior to dropout is below 2.5 (or equivalent).
4. The application is incomplete or missing required documents.
5. Any information provided is found to be false or fraudulent.
6. The applicant is not a Liberian citizen.
